Chuyên Đề Viết Lại Câu (HSG & LTĐH) - Phần 2

Tiếp theo PHẦN 1, Tôi trình bày PHẦN 2. Viết lại câu được xem là phần khó nhất mà các thí sinh buộc phải đối mặt trong các kì thi tuyển chọn Học Sinh Giỏi các cấp hoặc kì thi Tuyển Sinh Đại Học. Mức độ khó được phân theo từng loại khác nhau phụ thuộc vào cách ra đề thi. Ví dụ: Ở kì thi Tuyển Sinh Đại Học, thì phần viết lại câu được cho là không khó bằng các kì thi chọn HSG. Vì sao? Bởi người ra đề đã viết sẵn cho thí sinh 4 đáp án rồi, phần còn lại là nhiệm vụ của thí sinh phải chọn đáp án chính xác. Xem mục luyện thi đại học tại đây.

Việc này chỉ cần nắm chắc ngữ pháp là có thể vượt qua dễ dàng. Còn đối với kì thi Học Sinh Giỏi các cấp thì lại là vấn đề khác. 4 đáp án hoàn toàn không có sẵn cho thí sinh lựa chọn, thay vào đó, thí sinh tự suy nghĩ và diễn giải một câu mới sao cho nó tương đồng với câu ban đầu. Việc này không dễ thở chút nào, nếu không muốn nói là khó. Mức độ khó sẽ tăng dần tùy vào cách ra đề của Giáo Viên. Ví dụ: (Được sắp xếp theo mức độ khó tăng dần từ 1 trở lên). 1. He took________of our warning.  (Mức 1: nhiều gợi ý)

2. He took____________________. (Mức 2: có gợi ý)

3. __________________________.  (Mức 3: hoàn toàn không có từ gợi ý ngoài từ trong ngoặc)

Mức 3 được xem là mức khó nhất (thường gặp trong Đề Thi HSG Quốc Gia), đòi hỏi người viết không những giỏi ngữ pháp mà còn rất rành về các thành ngữ (idioms) hoặc một nhóm từ hay đi kèm với nhau (phrases) trong Tiếng Anh mới có thể hoàn thành tốt dạng câu này bởi đề thi chỉ có đúng một từ gợi ý trong ngoặc. Do vậy lời khuyên của Tôi cho bạn khi đối phó với dạng này là bắt buộc phải nghiên cứu những thành ngữ trong Tiếng Anh. 

Để giỏi phần này, hãy dùng 3 từ điển online sau phục vụ cho việc học của bạn:

Sau đây Tôi sẽ trình bày lần lượt những dạng biến đổi câu thường thấy trong các đề thi Học Sinh Giỏi hoặc Tuyển Sinh Đại Học. Hi vọng một phần nào đó, nó sẽ giúp ích cho các bạn trong các kì thi chọn Học Sinh Giỏi các cấp cũng như Tuyển Sinh Đại Học.

21. Most stores will accept a credit card instead of cash.(ALTERNATIVE)

→ Most stores will accept a credit card as an alternative to cash. (Credit card is an alternative to cash ~ to replace credit card payment with cash.)

22. You can avoid tooth decay by brushing your teeth regularly.(PREVENT)

→ Brushing your teeth regularly can prevent tooth decay. (prevent sth ~ avoid sth)

23. Some of Peter’s expressions make me think of my brother.(REMIND)

→ Some of Peter’s expressions remind me of my brother. (remind sb about/of sb/sth ~ to help sb remember sth, especially sth important that they must do.)

24. When do you think this bridge was built? (OLD)

→ How old do you think this bridge is?

25. That old typewriter is not worth repairing. (POINTLESS)

→ Repairing that old typewriter is pointless. (pointless ~ having no purpose ~ not worth doing)

26. They share a lot of hobbies and interests. (COMMON)

→ They have a lot of hobbies and interest in common.

27. This train should have left 30 minutes ago. (MEANT)

→ This train was meant to leave 30 minutes ago.

28 The president arranged for me to use his chauffeur-driven car whenever I liked. (DISPOSAL)

→ The president placed/put his chauffeur-driven car at my disposal.

29. The painting is worth $25,000. (VALUED)

→ The painting has been valued at $25,000.

30. This passport can be used in most countries. (VALID) 

→ This passport can be valid for most countries.

31. My bank manager and I get on together very well. (TERMS)

→ I am on very good terms with my bank manager.

32. That hotel is a bit too expensive for us, I am afraid. (REACH)

→ That hotel is a bit beyond our reach, I am afraid.

33. Absolute secrecy was crucial to the success of the mission. 

→ Without absolute secrecy, the mission wouldn’t have succeeded.

34. Immediately after his arrival home, a water-heater exploded. 

→ Hardly had he arrived home when a water-heater exploded.

35. Rita doesn’t realize how serious her husband’s operation is going to be.

→Little does Rita realize how serious her husband’s operation is going to be.

36. A waiter spilled soup over Lydia’s new dress last night.

→ Lydia had some soup spilled over her new dress by a waiter last night.

37. It was the goalkeeper that saved the match for us.

→ Had it not been for the goalkeeper, we would have lost the match.

38. Tim insisted on being told the complete story. (SATISFY)

→ Nothing but the complete story would satisfy Tim.

39. Jane’s husband will be returning from South America quite soon. (LONG)

→ It won’t be long after Jane’s husband returns from S.A.

40. The permit expires at the end of this month. (VALID)

→ The permit is not valid after the end of this month.
